My first thought was 'Pagemill!'. Anyone here remember that? Just a blank window, no rulers, no guides, no clue, no nuthin'. So I typed some 'Lorem' text in the window and, just for fun, hit 'Preview' ... and made the Apple site. Yes, only one page of it, but there it was—a fully formed Web page, with Aqua buttons, white space, glorious.
I was gobsmacked. I mean, everything worked, it didn't break in the browser when you enlarged the text, and it looked great. I wasn't about to publish a site that looked like Apple's, but I was impressed as all get out. There was an email link in the footer, there was a Copyright declaration with the date, and I hadn't had to tell it any of that. The whole thing had a wow factor I hadn't come across in years. Initial reactions are so important, and I liked the way the application impressed me within about half a minute of my launching it. I was still concerned about it being all templates, but I kept exploring ...
